The profession has existed since the turn of the 20th century with changing job titles. Until 2022, the job title was medical-technical laboratory assistant (MTLA); from 2023, the job title will be medical technologist for laboratory analysis (MTL).

The Medical Technology Professions Act (MTBG) and the corresponding training and examination regulations have been in force since 2023. From September 2026, the first trainees will take their state examination in accordance with the new legislation at the UKHD. As practical examiners, you will be involved in the final state examination together with the school's teaching staff. You will be able to jointly develop examination tasks, assess and evaluate examination candidates in a qualified manner and reflect on their actions in a standardised examination discussion.
