About the school
We have been training medical-technical laboratory assistants at Heidelberg University Hospital since 1937. In 2006, Heidelberg University Hospital and the Evangelische Stadtmission Heidelberg founded the Heidelberg Academy for Health Professions. Since then, the MTLA school at Heidelberg University Hospital has been part of the Academy for Healthcare Professions. From 2023, training will be carried out in accordance with the Medical Technology Professions Act (MT-Berufe-Gesetz - MTBG) and the MT Training and Examination Ordinance (MTAPrV). Since then, the job title has been Medical Technologist for Laboratory Analysis (MTL). The MTL school is located in the Heinsteinwerk/H+ building in Heidelberg's Wieblingen district.
Theoretical and practical training takes place at the MTL school, which is also responsible for applications and for organizing and carrying out the training in accordance with legal requirements. 20 training places are available each year. Training begins in October of each year.
Legal framework
MTL training is based on the law for professions in medical technology (MT Professions Act - MTBG) and the Training and Examination Ordinance (MTAPrV).
School team
The school team includes 6 full-time teachers, a secretary and part-time lecturers. The principal is Cornelia Mäder-Porombka (M.Sc.)
