Idea
Do you know the following statements from:
- Medical colleagues: "the patient is suffering from a transit syndrome"
- from relatives: "he/she is completely different at home", "he/she sleeps all day"
- from nursing staff: "the patient is bedridden", "he/she is out of sorts", "he/she is restless all night"
All these statements can be indications of delirium! Delirium is a cerebral condition that usually develops as a result of a physical illness, in patients with certain risk factors, following surgery, after taking medication or in connection with organic causes.
Goal
Delirium is a potentially reversible syndrome that can lead to a cascade of events such as a longer hospital stay, an increase in mortality or cognitive disorders after hospitalization.
As delirium is often recognized too late, but represents a major challenge for the therapeutic team, it is useful/essential to deal with the topic.
In our seminar, we want to inform the participants, sensitize them to the special situation of patients and relatives, present scores for diagnosis and show mechanisms for prevention.
