About the school
We have been training surgical assistants at Heidelberg University Hospital since 1998. In 2006, Heidelberg University Hospital and the Evangelische Stadtmission Heidelberg founded the Heidelberg Academy for Health Professions. Since then, the OTA school at Heidelberg University Hospital has been part of the Academy for Health Professions.
The OTA school also provides training for the following hospitals:

- GRN Hospital Weinheim
- GRN Hospital Schwetzingen
- GRN Hospital Eberbach

Today, the OTA school is located in the Heinsteinwerk in Heidelberg's Wieblingen district. Theoretical training takes place at the Academy for Health Professions, which is also responsible for applications as well as for the organization and implementation of training in accordance with legal requirements. Each year, 15 training places are available at Heidelberg University Hospital. Further training places are offered by the cooperating hospitals. Training begins in April of each year.
School team
The school team includes 5 full-time teachers, a doctor, a secretary and part-time lecturers. The principal is Andreas Motzkus, a qualified nursing educator (FH).
