Special feature of further training

Do you want to get started in an intensive care unit straight after your training and gain a professional qualification? With us, you have the opportunity to start further training directly after your training. Selected contents of the training are recognized as part of the equivalence to the further training. With further training, you will acquire a full qualification in accordance with the requirements of the further training regulationsWVO nursing professionsand graduate with the state-recognized qualification "Nursing specialist for intensive care".

Within 12 months of completing your training as an intensive care nurse, you can continue with further training in intensive care. Defined content from your training will be credited towards the further training. You will already set the course for further training in intensive care during your training. In the 2nd year of training, you register for participation in the 3+1 model. In the 3rd year of training, you will then spend 350 hours in an intensive care unit. An accompanying program is offered parallel to the intensive care unit placement.

Contents of the theoretical and practical training

The theoretical training in intensive care comprises 585 hours. Of these, 252 hours from nursing training are recognized within the framework of equivalence. The basic modules of the further training (170 hours) teach basic content that is also included in the training. They are fully recognized. A further 82 hours from the specialist modules of the further training, the content of which is also taught in the training, are recognized.

The practical intensive care training comprises 1,550 hours. Of these, 350 hours are credited from an assignment in an intensive care unit in the 3rd year of training. All other practical assignments from the further training are carried out in accordance with the WVO nursing professions. We accompany you on your way into practice through intensive induction and continuous practical guidance with experienced practical instructors on site.

Individual coaching (voluntary offer)

  • Self-reflection on the development and implementation of personal and/or professional goals
  • Analysis of the stress situation and development of individual stress management strategies

Period: during the in-depth assignment on an intensive care unit

Workshop "Mobilization of own resources" (mandatory participation)

  • Knowledge about stress: processes, causes, effects
  • Recognition of personal stress triggers and behavioral patterns in stressful situations
  • Possibilities of self-care, mindfulness, resilience, implementation strategies in everyday working life

Period: in the training year

Team coaching (mandatory participation)

  • Deepening the workshop content
  • Strategies for dealing with personal stress
  • Team reflection, exchange of experiences and case work from a psychosocial perspective

Prerequisite for participation

  • Successfully completed training as a nursing specialist (nurses with a professional license in accordance with Section 1 of the Nursing Professions Act)
  • Proof of at least 350 hours of practical work in an intensive care unit during training
  • Proof of 252 hours of creditable teaching units from the training program

Trainees at the Heidelberg Academy for Healthcare Professions will be informed about the registration procedure for further training in intensive care in this model project during the 2nd year of training.
