About the school

We have been training medical-technical radiology assistants (MTRA) at Heidelberg University Hospital since 1937. Since 2006, the MTRA school at Heidelberg University Hospital has been part of the Academy for Health Professions. From 2023, training will be carried out in accordance with the Medical Technology Professions Act (MT-Berufe-Gesetz - MTBG) and the MT Training and Examination Ordinance (MTAPrV). Since then, the job title has been Medical Technologist for Radiology (MTR). The MTR school is located in the Heinsteinwerk in Heidelberg's Wieblingen district.

The practical training takes place in the radiology departments of the University Hospital as well as in various hospitals and radiology practices. Training begins on April 1 and October 1 of each year. 15 trainees are accepted each year.

Legal framework

MTR training is based on the law on the professions in medical technology (MT Professions Act - MTBG) and the Training and Examination Ordinance (MTAPrV)

School team

The school team includes 5 full-time teachers, a secretary and part-time lecturers. The head teacher is Stephanie Biedenstein, a medical pedagogue (M.A.).
